Kullu, a district in the state of Himachal Pradesh was formerly known as Kulanthpitha, which means ‘the end of habitable world’. Naggar Castle, ancient seat of the Kings of Kullu was built by Raja Sidh Singh in the early 17th century. By the mid of 17th century, Raja Jagat Singh moved the capital to the present place and called it Sultanpur. Kullu valley is also called as the ‘Valley of the Gods’.

Kullu valley is famous for its beautiful hills covered with pine and Deodar forests and apple orchards. It is located on the banks of Beas river and so the land is very fertile.The average elevation is about 1362 meters. The district is also connected to the famous town of Manali through Rohtang Pass. The climate is pleasant and varies from 2 oC to 16 oC in winter and 14 oC to 33.8 oC in summer.

Majority of the population believe in Hinduism. Buddhism, Sikhism etc. is also followed by a minor group. The economy of the region mainly depends on Agriculture.

Kullu valley is famous its fairs and festivals. The seven day festival of Kullu Dussehra is a very famous festival.The district is famous its handicrafts, especially the Pashmina Shawl and also the temple carvings.
