Gujarat Saputara Hill Station
The Saputara hill station is a city/ municipality under the Dang District in the state of Gujrat in India. The state which is located on the western coast of India has a coast line of 1600 km length. The western as well as the South western frontiers of the state are swept by the beautiful Arabian Sea. The wonderful town of Saputara, located at the elevation of 1000 m from the sea level is popular for its panorama and pleasant climate throughout the year.
The Saptura hills lies at 20°40N and 73°21E / 20.67°N 73.35°E. The place is located in the region of Dang forest in the Sahyadri Range. The hill station is having rich biodiversity and also extensive natural relics. The panoramic landscapes and the exclusive heritage and traditions belonging to the natives called “dangi”, make it an interesting place to be explored.
The place has been established as an organized hill station having all the leisure facilities. It has beautiful hotels facilitated with swimming pools and boat clubs. The parks, theatres, museums at the hill station have turned it into an attractive hill resort for the tourists. It is an adorable destination where one can enjoy a relaxing holiday.
There is not much legend involved with the history of this. But it has a historical significance as it is considered to be the place where Lord Rama spent eleven years during his exiles. The literal meaning of Saputara is means 'abode of serpents’. There is an image of a snake located at the Sarpagana river which is flowing through the town.

By Air
Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport of Mumbai is the nearest airport located at a distance of 360 km from Saptura. The state Government of Gujrat is planning to make an airport at Saptura.
By Rail
The easily approached railheads are at Nasik and Billimora located at a distance of 80km and 112 km respectively. While the Waghai railway station located at the distance of 50 km rom Saptura is the nearest railway station. This is directly connected to the Mumbai city and regular service of train is available here.
By Road
It is connected to all the major cities by road network. It is connected to Ahmedabad,Aurangabad,Mumbai, Nashik, Shirdi , Silvassa , Surat and Valsad which are located at a distance of 400 km, 250 km,255 km, 80 km,140 km, 176 km, 164 km, 135 kmrespectively from Saputara.
Places To Visit
Saputara Lake
It is the main tourist attraction here. The lake has a boat club from where the sail boats, rowing boats, paddle boats can be hired. The panoramic views during the sunset and sunrise also attract the visitors here.
Pandava Caves
Located in the Valpoi District in the North Goa state, the Pandava caves are very near to Saputara. These caves are situated on the border of Gujrat and Goa states. These caves are said to be the place where Pandavas stayed for some time when they were on wilderness. In these caves they used to worship Lord Shiva. There is a Shivling inside the caves and the caves were referred as Aravalem caves by the Pandavas.
Gandhi Shikhar
Ganhi shikhar is a peak from where the circle of Saputara is located at a walking distance. From the hilltop the beautiful view of the setting sun is really very mesmerizing. This place is accessible by a single ropeway from the Vaity Ropeway Resort.
Weather And Best Time To Visit
The climate during the summers is very calm and relaxing. The temperature ranges between 27 degree C to 31 Degree C during the summers and in winters it ranges between 9 degree C to 20 degree C. The monsoon arrives during the mid-June and continues till the end of the month of October. All the year round the hill station is hospitable to the tourists because of its cool and pleasant weather.
