Gurudwara Siddh Bati Patshahi Pahili Kurukshetra
Gurudwara Siddh Bati Patshahi Pahili is a sacred shrine highly respected by Holy Guru Nanakji who came to Kurukshetra during a solar eclipse fair. As per the verdicts of the locals, he got the wrath of the Brahman priests informed to him, because meat was cooked on the occasion which was an eclipse time and cooking of any food during eclipse hours was considered a sacrilege, besides eating meat was fundamentally a taboo. Guru Nanak Ji clarified them later that the eclipses were the natural happening and that had nothing to do with food preparations or eating, in a discourse that took place on the southern bank of the sacred tanks. This Gurudwara was constructed there, but the original shrine was destroyed during the devastation suffered by Thanesar during Mughal and Afghan invasions happened later.
Other Gurudwaras in Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra is a location where the Sikh Gurus had visited during various periods of time and there are few other Gurudwaras worth visiting when one makes pilgrimage to Kurukshetra.
- Gurudwara Raj Ghat Patshahi Dasvin is a Manji Sahib constructed to mark the visit of Guru Gobind Singh who graced this place at the time of solar eclipse of 1702. This edifice is a single flat roofed construction, with a square hall, located at the northwestern edge of the tank. It is at this spot that the Guruji had put up his tents to stay.
- Gurudwara Dasvin Patshahi is a small shrine located in a house in Mohalla Saudagaran belonging to a descendant of Pandit Mani Ram, who had had the privilege of receiving Guru Gobind Singh`s blessings when Guruji visited Kurukshetra in 1702-03.
- Gurudwara Chhevin Patshahi is near Senaya Tank, a shrine dedicated to Guru Hargobind marking his visit to Thanesar around 1638 on the occasion of solar eclipse fair. Guruji had also visited Thanesar in earlier and he had stayed quite some time here. His visits were during his return trips after visiing Nanak Mata. People of this region having seen Holy Gurus, Guru Nanak and Guru Amar Das admiring them for their spiritual attire, they were surprised to see Guru Hargobind visiting them with arms and weapons, also accompanied by armed attendants. But their astonishment vanished when they heard of his spiritual discourses later. In the very spot, where the Guru had stayed during his visit, they raised a memorial platform over which this Gurudwara was built in 1909.
- Gurudwara Tisari and Satvin Patshahi is a common shrine for the memory of Guru Amar Das and Guru HarRai. This Gurudwara is in about half a kilometer distance from Thanesar railway station. Guru Amar Das had visited this location during a solar eclipse and one of Guru Ram Das’s hymns in the Guru Granth Sahib mentions about it.
- Gurudwara Navin Patshahi is in the old town of Thanesar and it is dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur who had visited this place during his travels in these areas.
How to Reach Kurukshetra Gurudwaras
Kurukshetra City is 160 Kilometers North of Delhi, reachable in 39 Kilometers from Karnal and 40 Kilometers from Ambala. It is about 6 kilometer distance off Pipli road junction in the National Highway No.1 known as the Grand Trunk Road.
Kurukshetra is connected through a Railway Junction which is in the main Delhi-Ambala Railway line, having popular and fast trains passing through this historically important location.
Delhi and Chandigarh airports are the nearest to Kurukshetra and one can reach to Kurukshetra by 2hours travel by road.
