Gurudwara Nanakwara
Gurudwara Nanakwara is centrally located in the heart of Hardwar city in Uttar Pradesh. It has been narrated that Guru Nanak visited Hardwar and this place during his first Udasi. Hardwar is considered a very holy place. It is a common belief that those who take a holy dip in River Ganges would absolve all sins immediately. Guru Nanak also took a holy dip in River Ganges at this specific place. Guru Nanak took the dip in the river at Kushwan Ghat and began splashing holy water with left hand in the west direction. On the other hand, devotees splashed water in the east direction. When devotees asked Guru behind his intention of splashing water in west direction he said he was steering water to parched fields in Punjab.
Pilgrims began laughing as to how water can reach parched fields in Punjab 470 kms away. Guru Nanak graciously told them that if holy water directed by him cannot reach parched fields in Punjab, how the sacred water can reach ancestors in the heaven above. Guru Nanak's reply shocked the devotees. They got confused initially but realized the overall truth in the statement afterwards. Guru Nanak entered Haridwar while on his eastward journey. He saw numerous pilgrims taking dip in holy Ganges and splashing water towards sun in the east. However, he started steering water towards west direction in order to quench the thirst of parched fields in Punjab.
