Gurudwara Ghai Ghat Patna
Gurudwara Ghai Ghat is the popular name for Gurudwara Pahila Bara, which is dedicated to the first Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Devji, who visited Patna in 1509 A.D and stayed in this place. Later the ninth Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji came to this place along with his family 1666 A.D., when he left his family at Patna for his visit to Dubri in Assam. It is at that time, he was blessed with a child, who was none other than Guru Gobind Singh, later to become the 10th Holy Guru of Sikhism.
When Guru Nanak Ji visited Patna, a trader dealing with Confectionery called Bhai Jaita, who was a pious man and had such an admiration for Guruji, had converted his house into a dharmsal. It was in this house the congregation called Bari Sangat or Ghai Ghat Sangat met for sharing spiritual knowledge. Later another wealthy Jeweler of Patna, Salas Rai, converted himself to the Sikh cult taking the Holy Guru Nanakji to his own place, where a group of people formed Chhoti Sangat, based on Sikh philosophy.
Bhagat Jaitamal's house where Holy Guru Nanakji stayed has been converted to Gurudwara Pahila Bara, which is now popularly known as Ghai Ghat Gurudwara. It is situated at Ghai Ghat Mohalla, in about 4 km distance from Sri Harmandir Sahib of Patna. During 1980s, they constructed a spacious Hall for the Gurudwara.
