History
Gurudwara Bari Sangat is a pious place as the place was visited by the divine Nanak Sahib Ji. He visited this place when he was coming back from Decca to Punjab. During his journey, Nanak Sahib Ji stayed at a place that is known as Ban Sangat. This is the place where this beautiful and marvelous Gurudwara was constructed in his remembrance. Also, Shri Nanak Sahib paid his visit to the King Raja Bahadur Singh.
The king Bahadur Singh felt peaceful experience with Nanak Sahib and he decided to build a unique shrine at Ban Sangat. So, Gurudwara Bari Sangat was built. There is another belief that the Guru Tegh Bahadur also paid a visit to this place. Therefore, the importance of this place is too much for the Sikh followers. Shri Tegh Bahadur spent time during his journey to Bengal and Assam.

Gurudwara Bari Sangat has been constructed on a large area. Raja Hazuri built this holy Sikh shrine and looked after it till his death. This Gurudwara is one of the historical places in Kolkata. It is exactly located in the Tullapati Cotton Street. Its architecture is very old and solid as it was built before A.D 1852.
