Banaskantha district is one of the districts of the state of Gujarat. This administrative headquarters of the district lie in the city of Palanpur, which is also the biggest city of the district.

The district is presumed to have received its name from the river Banas which flows through the district. The district of Banaskantha is situated in the northeastern part of Gujarat. This district is the third biggest district and covers an area of about 10,751 kilometer square. On the north and south, the district is bordered by Rajasthan and Mehsana and Patan respectively. It is bordered on the east by the Sabarkantha district and on the west by the district of Kutch.

The economy of the district is dependent on the mineral based and textile industries, tourism, food processing and agro based activities. The district ranks the first in the production of potatoe in Gujarat. The other crops which are produced are Psyllium, Jowar, Castor oil, Tobacco, Maize and Bajri. The district ranks first in the production of Isabgul in India and ranks third in the production of oil seeds.
