Mizoram Serlui B Dam
Serlui-B Dam is constructed over Serlui River in Kolasib district of Mizoram state of India. The construction of this dam was done by the joint venture of BHEL and MECON. The construction started in 2003 and after a tough work of 6 years, this dam was completed. After completion of the same, commissioning get some delayed and thus maintenance of the dam was hampered. Various spots of the dam were leaking and another process of 7 months was done to overcome this problem.
History
This dam was constructed during the 2009. Earlier there was no population around the area as the river Serlui was flowing without any populous shore. The area was identified as the would be generation point of hydro electricity. The two public sector factories took the responsibility to construct this dam. A large investment was done in this task as the geographical surroundings were not easy like in plains. Planning done in Izwal to build up the dam and execution started on the banks of Serlui-B River.
Technical Portion
This dam is located between the geographical coordinates 24°20′18.18″N92°46′06.48″E. Height of this dam is 167 ft and length is 961 ft. Entire area covered by this dam is 14.43SQKM. This dam has constructed with modern technique and with the user of concrete and iron bars. A 16.3 mtr thick wall has been provided to bare the huge water load. Power generation capacity of this dam is 12MW per year. One unit has been established at this plant to produce the energy.
Attraction
Tourism department of Mizoram is developing some projects to be established near this dam to enhance tourism in the state. Though, a lake which is located in the mid of the project is still filled with various picturesque scenes. Recently a project has also been launched in the area and as a first step of this project, more than lakhs fishes have been transferred into the dam for enhancing tourism.
