National Statistical Commission

Previously constituted C. Rangarajan Commission had suggested for the formation of a new Commission which could work for obtaining the statistical information and to find some genuine solution of the problems being faced in this regard. Indian  Government then took concrete step to form this Commission which could bring an important change in administrative and governance system of the entire country.

About National Statistical Commission

It was on June 01, 2005 that the Government of India took an initiative to form the National Statistical Commission after the suggestion it received from the erstwhile C. Rangarajan Commission for such purpose. Setting up of this Commission was an important move from the government for the better governance system and to get recommendations for the required statistical planning to keep the economic system right in order.

Upon establishing the National Statistical Commission, the Central Government took keen interest to make best use of it for which NSC was organized to the extent best to meet the required purposes. This Commission worked as an autonomous body. It mainly started functioning from July 2006 to collect data and to make sure that the best of statistical details are collected for the country’s overall development.

Eminent economist, Suresh Tendulkar was appointed to head National Statistical Commission as its chairperson. It was one of the noteworthy steps by the Central Government to form this Commission which played crucial role to maintain the data and to bring the economic reforms through fixing the statistics in various stages.

Mandate

The team of National Statistical Commission headed by eminent economist cum scholar Suresh Tendulkar was mandated to develop framework for the best possible statistical guidance which could create history in the economic reforms. Important mandate or objective was therefore to constitute this Commission which makes it easy for the procedures to reduce all sorts of concerns or the problems which all statistical agencies would have faced previously. It could have proved a milestone for the statistical agencies in the entire country to make data collection task more effective and worthwhile as well.

Recommendation Reports

National Statistical Commission suggested several recommendation reports to the Indian government for more effectiveness of statistics and data collection activities. Various mechanisms and procedures were suggested as tools for application by the unique policy formations that were exclusive ones which this Commission advised.

They were parts of the recommendation reports that could make perfect use of the existing resources for genuine social system where economic reforms and the major improvements thereafter become hassle free. Such reports were welcomed by the government once it received them for a new initiative to ease governance system.

Implementation of Recommendations

Once National Statistical Commission submitted its report to Central Government in the form of recommendations to implement various government agencies made it a point to implement them in their functioning as such recommendations were newer steps for the overall economic growth. Prominent statistical agencies in the country from the Central Statistical Organization (CSO) to the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) welcomed recommendations that were suggested by National Statistical Commission and they implemented them as well.

Above mentioned organizations would have faced multiple issues and problems in their operation until National Statistical Commission submitted recommendation reports so they hardly made any delay and implemented them. Implementation of such reports made it easy for the organizations to address problems they would have usually faced while collecting data from any department whether Central or State governments concerned.

Once the autonomous body, National Statistical Commission came in forefront and advised measure for better options to collect data it became easy to coordinate and act in a very effective manner on all types of operations. Paying special emphasis on the many issues concerned and to ensure that data were collected unbiased proved true so did they become easy data restoration tool. Implementation of those recommendations made everything transparent in entire governance system.
