Bilaspur is one of the oldest cities (around 400 years old).Bilaspur is famous for its unique characteristics like rice quality,Kosa industry and its cultural background.

History:

Bilaspur was a part of Kalchuri dynasty of Ratanpur. The city came into prominence around 1741, the year of the Maratha Empire invasion. The city was taken over by the British East India Company of Great Britain in the year 1854.

Demographics:

As per 2001 census, Bilaspur had a population of 265178, out of whichmales constitute 137892(52%) and females 127285 (48%) of the population. Bilaspur has an average literacy rate of 76%.

Geographically:

Bilaspur is located at 22.09° N 82.15 °E. It has an average elevation of 264 meters (866 ft). Bilaspur is situated on the banks of the rain-fed Arpa River. Bilaspur is hilly towards North and plane in the South. The northern part of Bilaspur is quite cold and becomes hotter as we move towards South.
