Jabalpur Cantonment
Jabalpur Cantonment, listed as one of the 62 military Cantonments of India, is considered as one of the largest and most popular cantonment town, occupying a vast area of 7040 acres, upholding a population of 66,499 people according to 2001 Government of India Census, comprising of Army formations, Military Establishments , Central Government units and Civil areas , many of them focussed on education and training, administered by an efficient cantonment board offering excellent facilities and amenities equally to residential outlets and official functioning of establishments.
History
When British occupied Jabalpur, the then Jabbalgarh, in 1818 CE after defeating Maratha Kings , they made this place their commission headquarters of Saugor and Nerbudda territories, establishing the Jabalpur Cantonment, later this place then known as Jubbulpore Cantonment came to limelight when Gadadhar Tiwari, a revolutionary military personnel opened fire on the British Superiors as his contribution to the Independence Struggle, which aroused the Independence spirit of people all over the country.
After Saugor and Nerbudda Territories were merged with Central Provinces in 1861, Jabalpur Cantonment gained more prominence, particularly when this place became the Brigade HQ in 1903.

How to Reach Jabalpur Cantonment
Jabalpur Cantonment is approachable by all the three means of transport, air, road and rail, Jabalpur Airport also called Dumna Airport, is about 20 km from the Jabalpur City, with flights connecting destinations all over the country, with a modern air terminal and air taxi parking facilities, this City is well connected by Road, with regular and omnibus services from all over India, with an excellent 4 way Highway connecting the city, Jabalpur being the HQ of West Central Railways, rail links from all parts of India connecting the Jabalpur Junction, while local transport facilities are plenty for any tourist to enjoy their trips from and to the Cantonment area.

Jabalpur Cantonment Board facilitates the Cantonment residents with excellent facilities, in education, health and recreation, besides many outlets for day to day living requirements, Cantonment board itself running primary, nursery, English medium schools, there are about 8 schools in the Cantonment town providing the most sophisticated educational opportunities to the children of Cantonment residents, the boar tying up with IGNOU for the Computer education of the residents, and also making arrangements with an Industr4ial training Institute for the vocational training requirements of the residents’ wards, besides taking care of the General sanitary, water supply, street lighting and other civic amenities which are normal requirements of a civilised society.
