Allahabad Cantonment
Allahabad Cantonment is a Category II military cantonment established in 1857CE during Britishraj covering a land area of about 4500 acres, which includes about 142 acres of area occupied by Civilians, while as per Government of Census 2011, the population of Allahabad Cantonment is around 26904.
Allahabad Cantonment is taken care of by a Board constituted by Ministry of Defence, which is an autonomous body consisting 14 Members, 7 of them being elected members, the Station Commander overseeing the activities of the Board as ex-officio President, while the Vice President is one from the 7 elected members.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Allahabad Cantonment Board is from the Indian Defence Estates Services cadre and he officiates as the Secretary of the Board.
History
Allahabad is one of the biggest cities in Uttar Pradesh, religiously popular because of the holy confluence India's holiest rivers, Ganga and Yamuna, with a third holy river Saraswathi which is not existing today, thereby this location named Sangam or Triveni Sangamam, attracting thousands of pilgrims throughout the year to have a holy bath here.

History informs us that the Emperor Akbar called this city as Illahabas in 1575CE, which has now changed to Allahabad, the monarch recognising its strategic importance had built a magnificent fort on the river banks.
How to Reach Allahabad Cantonment
Direct flight to Delhi for taking a direct train to Allahabad has been considered by the tourists as the best way to reach Allahabad, particularly for those coming from abroad.
Allahabad Airport (IXD) which is also called Bamrauli Field is basically a military base one commercial flight per day is another good choice for the traveller, although, it is also possible to take a flight to Varanasi or Lucknow as both of these airports are nearby in 120 km and 200 km respectively.
Allahabad is also well connected by train routes from Delhi and Kolkata or for that matter from Mumbai too.
Allahabad lies on NH2 and NH27, several buses plying throughout the day, reaching this place by road is always possible.

As per 2001 Government of India census, Allahabad Cantonment’s population is 14,713, males constituting 60% and females 40%, with an average literacy rate of 81%, which is higher than the national average, 12% of the population being under 6 years of age.
