Rajendra Setu
The Rajendra Setu Bridge is also referred to as the Rajendra Pul and also by the name of Mokama Bridge. The bridge has been built across the river Ganges. It was one of the first bridges of its kind which was built to connect North Bihar and South Bihar.
Geography
Being a road-cum-rail bridge, it is located near Mokama in Patna district. The bridge was commissioned by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President of India. Its total distance is about kilometers or about 1.2 miles long. The bridge is able to carry a two lane road along with a double line railway track. It was opened to the public in the year 1959.
Engineering Details
The bridge is considered to be a four-lane road bridge which runs through NH 31, parallel to the existing rail and Road Bridge. Being one of the oldest Rail and Road Bridge which has been built by Vishwasharya it connects North and south Bihar. The bridge is also known also known as Simariya or Mokama Bridge, Rajendra Pul or Rajendra Setu.
The Rajendra Setu on the river Ganga links Begusarai to Patna Districts at Mokama. In all, 18 stations are there in this district. The interior parts of the district are connected with many of the other main roads. The National Highways 28 and 31 connect this district to other parts of the country. The bridge is considered to be one of the longest span pre-stressed concrete arch bridges in Asia.
