Nehru Setu
The Nehru Setu traverses the Son River. The bridge lies between the Son Nagar, in Bihar and Dehri-on-Son. The bridge is considered to be amongst the second longest railway bridge in India, after the Vembanad Rail Bridge which is in Kerala. However, it is only meant for goods traffic.
Geography
The Nehru Setu rail bridge or the Upper Son Bridge is considered to be the second longest railway bridge in India. It is about 3.065 km in length. This is one of the reasons as to why the bridge is being touted to be one of the longest railway bridges in India which traverses the Son River in Bihar. The bridge is able to link Dehri-on-Son and Son Nagar. You will also be able to come across a river road bridge which is located on the National Highway 2. The NH-2 runs parallel to the long Nehru Setu rail bridge.
Engineering Details
With its length of 3.065km long the bridge has a total of 93 spans of 30.5m each. The bridge is able to connect Jogighopa to Pancharatna in the Indian state of Assam.
The bridge has approximately 18 spans each of which are about 120m, with 2 spans of 30.5m. The bridge which is situated over the river Ganga near Patna is 2km long.
This bridge is being constructed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, (RVNL) which is a government undertaking and falls under the ministry of Railways. The main contractor for this project is Afcons Infrastructures Ltd. When the bridge will be completed it will be able to transform the industrial environment in the state.
