Built in the year 1881, Golden Bridge remains the major landmark in Gujarat state of India due to it connecting two prominent trade centers Ankleswar and Bharuch across the famous Narmada River. This bridge is famously nicknamed as Narmada Bridge. It was in the year 1877 that the then British government began the work to build the bridge to connect one portion of the area with the other through linking them on Narmada River.

That is why, it came to be known as the Golden Bridge and attained popularity with that name only.
Description of the Bridge
As the aim of building Golden Bridge was to connect one region of the state with the other through a bridge over Narmada River which literally separated two areas, best efforts were made to use quality materials for such purpose. Even though more than a century has passed after it was built, the bridge remains operational and is part of national highway in the region. A new highway has already developed due to an increase in traffic causing through the fast development of this region.
Although Golden Bridge had to encounter several floods and commonly the natural disasters earthquakes etc., in a period consisting of more than a century, the bridge still serves the local masses. It is one of the best means to connect Ankleswar with Bharuch even to this day.
