Medak, situated in the Telangana region, is one of the districts of Andhra Pradesh. It was initially known as ‘Siddapur Medak’ but in course of time, the term ‘Siddapur’ lost its grandeur and for all practical purposes, the district was named as Medak. In the early days the district was reined by the rulers who belonged to the Dynasty of Kakatiya. Medak fort constructed in the 12th century holds as an essence of the particular dynasty in the district. In fact this fortification confirms the splendid tradition of the district.

Majority of the people of this region is engaged either directly in agriculture or in any other allied activities. Manjeera, Valdhi, Gudleruvagu and Kadaleru are the major rivers that flow through this district. These rivers make the soil fertile. Crops of Rice and Jowar are the main corps grown here. Besides these, Cotton, Turmeric, Maize, Chillies and Sugar Cane are also cultivated in this region.

Medak has a tropical type of climate. Summers are dry and hot. South west monsoon brings shower in the district. Rainy season continues from the month of June to the month of September. Winter is short lived and ranges from the month of December to the month of February.
