Kurnool is a district in state of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed that Kurnool has got its name from the town of Kurnool which used to be the capital of the Nawabs of the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed that from the word Kandanvolu the name of ‘Kurnool’ was originated.

Nawab Alaf Khan Bahadur and his successors ruled the district for considerable long period of time. Nawab coordinated with the Sultan of Mysore and fought valiantly to prevent the British ruler to capture the district. The edifice, by the side of river Tungabhadra, made during the tenure of Nawab is a symbol of the architecture of that regime. The tourists come and see the work of the brave dynasty.

The district of Kurnool is located to the western side of the state Andhra Pradesh has the following as its boundary:

• The districts of Guntur and Nellore in the East,
• Anantpur and Cuddapah in the south,
• Bellary in the West and
• Mahaboobnagar district towards the north of Kurnool.
