Hyderabad was founded by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 AD and it is situated on the banks of river Musi. The original name of Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar which was named by the Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah after his beloved Bhagmati or Bhagyamati in 1590. Hyderabad was founded over 1000 years ago, according to the archaeologists back in 500 BC. The region was ruled by the Kakatiyas until 1310 AD. It was proposed by Baba Saheb Ambedekar to make Hyderabad as one of the second capital of India in 1952.

The population in Hyderabad as estimated in 2009 is over 4.0 million, making it most populated cities of India. The population in Hyderabad is increasing day by day due to IT sectors and companies. Geographically this city is spread across 260 Km square and it is situated on Deccan plateau. Hyderabad is 536 meters above sea level and it contains rocky terrain and hilly areas.

The climatic condition of Hyderabad is combination of tropical wet and dry climate as it is bordered by hot semiarid climate. Summers in Hyderabad starts in late February that last till early June, monsoon in this region starts from late June to early October and winter starts from late October to early February. The climate in Hyderabad remains fairly warm throughout the year with less rainfall in monsoon season. The temperature in summer can rise up to maximum of 42 degree Celsius and falls up to 12 degree Celsius in winter season. The rainfall in Hyderabad that is measured in monsoon is 810 millimeters every year.

History

Hyderabad was founded back in 500 BC. This region was ruled by Kakatiyas until 1310 AD and later was ruled by Delhi sultanate from the year 1310 to 1345. Later it was revolted by Bahmani Sultan against the sultan of Delhi Muhammad bin Tughluq and proposed to form independent state in Deccan within Delhi Sultanates.

At the time of British rule Hyderabad state was ruled by Asif Jahi Dynasty who was titled as His Exalted Highness by the British. Asif Jahi Dynasty was the only prince awarded with His Exalted Highness. Hyderabad was included in Indian province as a state in the month of September 1948 when Nizam surrendered and signed the instrument of Accession.

The city of Hyderabad is a metropolitan city consisting of wide range of religions from Hinduism (55.40%), Muslims (40.17%) and other including Christianity (2.13%), Sikhism (0.2%) and Jainism (0.4%). Hyderabad city is well known for iconic temples, mosques and churches. The official language is Telugu and Urdu. There are other prominent languages like English, Hindi, Marathi, Kanada, and Tamil. Economically Hyderabad is the richest city as it ranks 93rd in List of richest cities in world by GDP and sixth in India. It is one of the prominent IT hubs contributing to India’s revenue.

Culture of the Capital

Hyderabad is city where distinct and linguistic culture of South India and North India meet. The residents of Hyderabad are called as Hyderabadi. In Hyderabad there are various culture people like Hindu and Muslims. The language spoken by Hyderabadi is Telugu or Urdu. The outfit for women is traditional sari or slawar Kameez among young females. Men in Hyderabad wear traditional Sherwani. The traditional outfit of Muslim female is Khara Dupatta that is wore along with the salwar kameez. There is tradition among Muslim female to wear Burqa.

The festival celebrated by hyderabadi’s is like Ananta Chaturdashi where Lord Ganesh idols are immersed after 10 day on Ananta Chaturdashi called as Ganesh Nimajjanam. Bonalu is one of the festivals celebrated with immense pleasure by Hindus. The Muslims have to fast in the month of Ramzan as this month is considered as holy which ends on Eid-ul-Fitr and is celebrated by preparing and then distributing the sweet dish, Sheer Qorma among the poor people. An annual possession of Muharram is conducted on every 10th day of the month by Shia Muslims at the Charminar area.

The Hyderabad cuisines are a traditional blend of Mughals, Arabic, Turkish and Irani food where various ingredients like wheat, spices and rice are intensively used while preparing the food. The cuisine of hyderabadi people is also influenced by the Marathwada and Telugu style of food making dishes more delicious.
