Once India attained freedom and the democratic Indian Government took initiative to re-develop Tezpur AFS, it began complete renovation for the operation of its own Air Forces from the year 1959 itself. This airbase has remained one of the highly rushed northeastern bases ever since it had been developed for the Armed Force needs. This airbase has been maintaining complete variety of operation through the fixed and rotary wing aircrafts which function from this base as part of the security operations role to ensure the internal security of northeastern states.

It is an undeniable fact indeed that this airbase has been playing a pivotal role for the security measures since last couple of decades.
