Rohtak Zoo

Located in the Rohtak city of India’s Haryana state, Tilyar Mini Zoo or commonly named Rohtak Zoo is one of the biggest zoos of this area. Rohtak geographically coordinates at 28°52′44″N 76°38′09″E. This zoo is managed and controlled by Forests Department of the Government of Haryana and so it is one of the most famous zoos amongst state level zoos in the area.

History

The state government of Haryana took firm decision in the year 2001 to close down several non-viable mini zoos scattered in various parts of the state with a plan to develop a new one. The new zoo was therefore named Rohtak Zoo for which new steps were taken to constantly develop that to make it best in this area. Efforts made in the last one and half decades have paved the way for its constant growth. Today it sees collection of several attractive birds and animals. Its area has been expanded from the previous 16 acres to present 44 acres and so have occurred many other developmental works to turn it into a prominent recreational destination where people keep arriving each passing  day.

Rohtak Zoo was expanded once the state government transferred approximately 28 acres of land from the Tilyar Tourist Complex to State Forest Department in 2003 to develop a zoo as one of the biggest ones in the region. The Central Zoo Authority of India sanctioned its expansion in 2004. It was therefore expanded a year later. This zoo has collection of rare animals including Gharials; Crocodile; Hippopotamus; Himalayan Black Bear; Leopard; Tiger; Fox; Hyena; Wolf; Jackal; Otter; Barking Deer; Chinkara; Black buck; Sambhar; Langoor; Pig tailed Monkey; Macque and Baboon and numerous types of birds species.

Timings & Tariff

Visitors are charged INR10 per adult for entry into Rohtak Zoo. The charges for children are INR5 per kid. Located at a distance of mere 42 km from the national capital region of Delhi this zoo is well maintained hence it attracts large number of visitors. It remains open from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM every day except on weekly off days and national holidays. Visitors are permitted to enter into Tilyar Lake without paying any entry fee. It distinguishes as an ultimate location for family explorations. One can do fishing at the Tilyar Lake which is permissible after making a payment of INR200 fishing fees chargeable each individual.

Wildlife

Attractive gardens, hillocks, lakes, waterfalls, visitor trails, paths and roads seek the attention of every visitor at Rohtak Zoo. They are ultimate attractions inside this zoo and therefore make it a beautiful place to explore wildlife and to look at several animals and bird spices.

How to Reach

Rohtak is one of the fast developing cities in the Haryana state of India. As it is close to the national capital region, it is easily accessible by airways, roadways and railways. Visitors to Rohtak Zoo can travel to main city of Rohtak by any of the above mentioned means of transportation and choose a local transportation system from city buses to auto rickshaws etc., thereafter to come to this zoo for once-in-a-lifetime experience.
