Pheasant Breeding Centre

The Pheasant Breeding Centre, Morni Hills is located in Panchkula district and is a purpose-built centre in Morni for breeding of pheasants. It is a tourist attraction and a village in Panchkula district in Morni hills in Haryana state, India. It is situated at a distance of 45 km from Chandigarh, at a distance of 35 km from the Panchkula district and it is known for the views of Himalayas, lakes and flora.

History

  • During 1992-93 till 1995-96 years, few eggs got collected from wild and then they were hatched at this centre.
  • After the year 1996, most of the rise in the birds’ population came from the breeding at the centre itself by using broody hens for the hatching and brooding purposes.
  • At the time of 1998-99 year, 14 birds were born during the summer season of 1988 and were released in the area of the forest.
  • In the year 1999, 7 birds were released and in the year 2000, 10 birds were again released. Thus in total, 31 sub-adults birds got released in the birds’ pre-selected habitat.

Wildlife

There are several pheasants’ types found in the centre including endangered Kalij pheasant, endangered cheer pheasant and red jungle fowl.

Best Time to Visit

The winter season is witnessed in the city during the months starting from December till the summers of March. Occasional rains are witnessed during the winters in the district that starts usually from western disturbances. Therefore the best time to visit the city is during the winter season where the tourists can enjoy the most of it.

How to Reach

By Air

Pheasant Breeding Centre is situated in Panchkula district which is located in the planned position that nullifies the difficulties of reaching there. The city is accessible easily from all the towns and cities majorly. The nearest airport to reach the district is the airport in Chandigarh. There are large numbers of flights connecting Chandigarh city to many cities of the country.

By Rail

It is easy to reach the city by rail as there are many trains connecting the city with many parts of the country. The city has its own railway station from where the tourists can hire any rickshaw to reach the centre.

By Road

One of the best options to reach Panchkula town is via road. Few cities which can be easily reached from Panchkula are Kalka located at a distance of 19 km, Chandigarh located at a distance of 11 km and Ambala located at a distance of 46 km. The city has good road connectivity.
