Maitri Bagh
Maitri Bagh is located at about 20 minutes travel distance from Bhilai Steel Plant. Maitri Bagh is otherwise referred as ‘Garden of Friendship’. This place got its name as it was designed to celebrate the friendship that existed between Russian government and Indian government. The garden was designed, constructed and maintained by Bhilai Steel Plant. This place is well known to be the best destination for hangout in Indian state of Chhattisgarh. People belonging to all age group can have good time here. The Maitri Bagh consists of musical fountain, amazing gardens, beautiful lakes, large zoo and a tall tower in the name of Pragati Minar along with Maitri Express, the toy train for children.
This place is an outstanding tourist destination to enjoy with family and friends. Tourists from all parts of India throng this place along with local people to enjoy scenic environment, flower beds, mesmerizing musical fountain and lavish greenery. Close to the Maitri bagh is Bhilai water works that provide water to nearby families.
The Maitri Bagh entrance is designed in the shape of two artificial giraffes with colliding heads. The zoo situated inside this Maitri Bagh is the largest zoo in this Chhattisgarh state. The place is wide spread in an area of approximately 167 acres. This zoo hosts large varieties of fauna and flora. There are more than 39 types of exotic reptiles, birds and animals along with few endangered species. The most popular among them are the white tigers. There is a man made artificial lake that flows in this zoo. One can enjoy boating in this lake along with scenic beauty.
The Maitri express, otherwise known as toy train will be functioning between 3 pm and 6 pm. The cost of this train journey is INR 5 and it is free for children up to 3 years. The island present inside this artificial lake entertain tourist with musical fountain. This is a very big fountain in south East Asia. Many water fountains dance to instrumental music along with contemporary and retro songs. Jet water shoot in air, it sways and twists giving an appeal of dancing beautifully to tunes of music. Every movement of water is lid with bright and shimmering colors delivering visual entertainment to its viewers. This is a 20 minutes show. Every alternate day, there will be two shows. This mesmerizing show steals the heart of people belonging to all ages.
This is an ideal destination for jogging and strolling during evening times enjoying the blooming flowers, lavish green ambience and breathing unpolluted fresh air. The place also has a play ground comprising fun filled activities for children, giant wheel and big swings. The garden also carries a watchtower, ‘Pragati Minar’ from where one can enjoy a breathtaking view of entire Maitri Bagh along with adjacent Bhilai Steel Plant.
The most special feature is the annual flower show. This flower show is arranged once in a year in grand manner. Both tourists and local people take active participation in this show. Various varieties of big vegetables and flowers from different regions of this district is kept for display.
There are various varieties inside this Maitri Bagh that keep its visitors completely engaged throughout the day. One can spend their mornings roaming in the lavish garden and can indulge in some fun filled activities like giant wheel and swing. Timings & Tariff
The zoo inside this Maitri Bagh is opened for public between 10 am and 5 pm. The park will remain open upto 7.30 pm. One can enjoy musical fountain around 7 pm on all Sunday and Saturday. The Pragati Minar can be enjoyed between 10 am and 5 pm. They collect entrance fee INR 10. On Mondays the park and zoo will remain closed for public.
