ChattBir Zoo

ChattBir Zoo is also known as Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park and is situated near Zirakpur, 17 km away from Chandigarh and 55 km away from Patiala.  The zoo spreads to an extent of about 202 acres and has about 950 different varieties of animals, birds and reptiles.  The winter season attracts maximum number of visitors because of the wonderful pleasant climate that prevails during the daytime.  Chattbir Zoo is a proud owner of Royal Bengal Tigers.  Other than that the major attraction of Chatbir Zoo is the Lion safari.

History

The Chhatbir Zoo was developed much longer back in the 1970s.  There is a large developed water body and huge parks of wood.  The forest-like environment rich with forest greenery and shrubs encourages the animals to roam about as though they are in their natural habitat.  At present the zoo is a full-fledged park spread on the banks of the Ghaggar River with everything needed for animals to live as they would live in original forests.

Animals

The Chandigarh zoo has much more invaluable possessions like the Royal Bengal Tigers, Lions and about eighty varieties of rare animals and colourful birds.  Visitors can enjoy adventurous trips to the Asiatic Lion reserves, where animals roam about at their free will.  The Himalayan Black Bear, Elephant, Crocodiles, White Deer, Deers, as well as a vast collection of fish and reptiles reside at the Chhatbir Zoo. The authorities at Chhatbir zoo, never compromise on the fact that the animals are kept in an enclosure which exactly resembles their natural habitat. The animals live in large moats and in about 100 enclosures.  Most of the zoo animals are born and brought up here with utmost care.
