Himachal Pradesh Khokhan
Khokhan wildlife sanctuary is just on a distance of 19 kilometers from main tourist city Kullu. In this sanctuary some wild species like Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard, and Flying Cats etc are habited since long before declaring this area as wild life sanctuary. This sanctuary is well connected by various means of transportation and major cities of Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states.
In this wildlife sanctuary, a wide range of quadruped and bird species are naturally habited alongwith a good range of reptiles too. Himalayan Black Bear is the most important species of this sanctuary. This bear is now labeled as endangered species. Except Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer, Barking Deer, Monal, Pheasants, Kaleej, Chakor, Leopard and Gothu etc are habited in this sanctuary. This area was famous for Black Bears as the weightiest and filthy Bears are found here but due to some heritage problems, the loss of this precious and endangered species is experienced. Preservation activities are continued to ensure better survival of Black Bear.
In this sanctuary some migratory birds also have made their permanent habited alongwith the resident birds. Routine migration from Siberia and Mongolia in winter season converted into very frequent and finally this sanctuary become the habitat of these migratory birds. Spotted Duck, Hornbill, Giant Pheasant and Stripped Parrot are some of the main bird species.

This temple was built by Raja Jagat Singh in 1660. This is located at 7 kilometers from this sanctuary.
Entire Kullu area is the most attractive place in northern region of Himachal Pradesh. The scenic beauty and picturesque scenes are amazing. Snow clad peaks of Himalaya are also viewable from many point from this valley. Kullu is also known as “Dev Bhumi”. Lahol and Spitti district is also connected with Kullu valley through Rohtang Pass. This pass is located at the elevation of 3978 mtrs from MSL.
his is high altitude lake and situated at an average altitude of 4235 mtrs from MSL. Gulaba village is very close to this lake and located at 6 kilometers distance. Various trekking options are also present around this lake.
How to Reach
Kullu is a tourist place and hence well connected with all the means of transportation.
Bhunthar is the nearest airport to access Kullu and Khokhan wildlife sanctuary by air. Location of this airport is just 120 kilometers from main city.
Jogindernagar is nearest railway station at 125 kilometers distance. Though, Shimla and Chandigarh are also the closer railways station located at 267 and 270 kilometers respectively but Chandigarh is better as routine road transports are available from this station.
From Delhi, Chandigarh and Pathankot, bus services are available reach Kullu. State transports buses, tourist vans and taxies are also available from nearby cities to reach this sanctuary. Deluxe buses are available at affordable rate i.e. Rs. 4 per kilometers. A/c Non-A/c buses are also available even from Shimla and Chandigarh too. Though road distance from Shimla is 270 KM and from Chandigarh it is 278 kilometers.
