Gujarat Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary
Jambughoda wildlife sanctuary is one of the most attractive spots for adventure lovers, located in Champaner district of Gujarat. This sanctuary is not far located and just away 20 kilometers from main Champaner district. Vadodara is at 45 kilometers distance from this sanctuary. On Pavagadh – Champaner route this sanctuary is located. To reach this sanctuary, vehicles can also be hired from Vadodara city.
This area was under control of Princely state named Jambughoda before independence of India. Surroundings of this area were well covered with hillocks and greenery. A better forestry made it an ideal habitat for wild animals. Grassy lands and tall bushes are also supporting for making shelters and dens for wildlife. This sanctuary is not spread over a large area like Sasan Gir sanctuary. Entire sanctuary is located in 138.38 sqkm area and was established in 1990. Before establishing proper watch and ward and preservation activities, the wildlife of this area was developing in an unorganised manner. But soon after the official indulgence, population of the wild species, especially Hyena and Wild Boar have been seen increased. Survival ratio of the species also changed as food chain of vegetarian animals expanded. Vegetation in the sanctuary developed due to preservative intervention and thus general hunger and nutrition problem of various animals came to an end. Before establishing wildlife sanctuary, this place was an ideal spot for illegal hunters. Various shortcuts and backdoors were in vogue to hunt precious wildlife illegally. But strict vigil and caretaking has changed the manner and at present no such instances are being done here.
In this sanctuary, the wildlife is much better than other wildlife areas of the country. It is amazing fact of this sanctuary that a race is present with almost the variations. For example, various racial shapes of cat are habited in this area like, Cat, Lesser Cat, Wild Cat, Leopards, Panthers, and Asiatic Lion. Likewise, dog race is habited as wild dogs, Woolf and Hyena. Similarly Monkeys are also found here in three racial shapes. Race of Cow like Nilgai, Antelopes of two types 12 Horned, 4 Horned, Sambhar, Chinkara etc. This combination is rarely seen in other wildlife sanctuaries. Reptiles of this sanctuary are generally poisonous as semi desert terrain is the climate suitable for snakes with a considerable quantity of poison. Great Indian Cobra, Python, Russell’s Wiper and Monitor Lizard (Teeth and poison bag) are some of the examples of reptiles found here.
Flora and Fauna
In this wildlife sanctuary, there are various types of vegetation which supports floral portion of the area. Shisham, Khair, Bamboos, Sadad, Dudhalo, Bili, Dhav are the trees which makes the environment of this sanctuary eco friendly. Climatic balance is always maintained in this area. Grassy lands, tall grass, meadows and uneven surface makes the floral property rich which is adequate to the living condition of wild animals. In this area, Sloth bear, Leopard, almost races of Cat and dogs are habited. In the nearby water reservoir, various species of fishes, reptiles and water borne plants are found. Some medicinal plants are also found in this sanctuary for which a research centre has been established in Champaner district during 1986. Migratory birds are often take rest in this sanctuary while their to and fro journey to the destination.

How to Reach
Nearest airport is at 90 kilometers at Vadodara.
Shivrajpur is the nearest railway station located at 10 kilometers from this sanctuary.
Bodeli (Vadodara) and Shivrajpur are the nearest bus terminus located at 12 and 01 kilometers respectively.
Good Hotels are available at Vadodara and Forest department rest houses are also available at Kada place near the Dam and on Targol dam.
