Arunachal Pradesh D'ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary
Daying Ering Wild Life Sanctuary has very beautiful and scenic views in Arunachal Pradesh state of India. This sanctuary is spread over a small area and not more than 190 SQKM. The area of jurisdiction is hilly and this it seems vast but the actual occupied area is much less. This sanctuary has a better mixture of water and wooded areas as only 15% area of the sanctuary is covered with trees and remaining is water storage. This sanctuary is located at a small distance of 13 kilometers from Pasighat. This sanctuary is not suitable location for wild animals whereas for migratory birds, this is an ideal place and the gathering of birds can be seen throughout the year. Various birds from the hot and cold areas of Mongolia and Siberia respectively migrate to this location according to the seasons.
This sanctuary was established in the year 1972 when Siang River was recognized as the main water impounding source for various ponds and small lakes in the route through this sanctuary. It was felt that the area be protected and restriction imposed on hunting in this area to save wildlife. Dense forestry and lush greenery makes the surrounding very beautiful and picturesque. In earlier days of establishment of this sanctuary, Snow Leopard and White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger also seen in the area but slowly all these wild animals moved to other location and presently restricted to Sundarban area of west Bengal. Birds, especially migratory birds, are now naturally habited in this sanctuary.
Flora and Fauna
This area is full of Devdar and Oak trees. Sky high Devdar trees, Chhed Trees and other tall vegetables including Bamboo trees make the flora of this area very rich. A better part of forestry of this area is that no illegal cutting of trees is seen here. Surroundings of the area is hilly and steep hillocks and springs creates and lasting impression on visitor and invite here to come time and again. Official machinery also established a research center of medicine here as this area is full with various medicinal plants and herbs. Local population also depends on the Herbs for routine treatment.
In the various ponds of this sanctuary Spotted Turtle, Crabs, Water snakes are found in huge quantity. In open areas Cranes, Spotted Ducks, Peacocks, Sparrows, Great Hornbills, Mynas, Hilly Pigeon and Hilly Parrots (Spotted on Neck) are found in huge numbers.Â Migratory birds are also seen in the area in large numbers as the climate of this sanctuary suits to the birds of Siberia and Mongolia. Some poisonous reptiles are also found in this area. Black King Cobra, Large Scorpions, Karrait, Russellâ€™s Wiper and Flying Lizard and Monitor Lizard are some of the dsangerouis species found in this sanctuary.
This valley is full of various attractive locations. Adventures locations and activities like trekking are very famous in this area. Siang Valley Trekking has worldwide fame and a number of tourists come here only for this purpose. The Tsangpo River flows alongside the Arunachal Pradesh and creates a gorge which is ideal for trekkers. The trek passes through various exciting locations and every time the visitor feels that he /she has explored the new area.
This is a fine hill station located adjacent to this sanctuary. In other words, this sanctuary comes under the area of Pasighat. This station is located in the Siang district of the state. This station is also known as the threshold of Arunachal Pradesh and from here the view of snow clad peaks of Himalayas are viewable. Except the above, various waterfalls and springs are other things of attraction in this hill station.
