Andhra Pradesh Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary
The Pranahita wildlife sanctuary is part of Adilabad district and has the landscapes of Deccan Plateau that give it a scenic beauty and is spread over an area of 136 sq. km. The sanctuary is at a distance of 35 km from Mancherial.It is majorly formed with the deciduous teak forests. This wildlife sanctuary got its name from the river Pranahita that flows in the vicinity and is the tributaries of river Godavari.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
The weather summer is hot and dry and temperature is around 40 degree Celsius and the winters are cold and the temperature is around 15 degree Celsius.
The best time to visit is in the months from October to March.
How to Reach
The nearest airport is Hyderabad at a distance of 300 kms from Pranahita.
Mancherial that is at a distance of 70 km has a road connected to the sanctuary.
There are many trees grown in the forest and can be named as Dalbergia latifolia, Dalbergia paniculata, Pterocarpus marsupium, Dalbergia sissoo, Ficus spp etc. Bamboo, Teak, Terminalias are the trees that grow in the forests.
There are varieties of reptile that are part of the sanctuary. Tiger, Sloth Bear, Black Buck, Chinkara, NIlgai,Cheetal and Panther are the animals that can be seen the Pranahita wildlife sanctuary.
The varieties of mammal that can be seen in the sanctuary are deer, ungulates.
There are assorted collections of birds likestrokes; ducks, teals, herons etc. are part of the sanctuary.
