Andhra Pradesh Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary
In the state of Andhra Pradesh in Medak district is the wildlife sanctuary and the reservoir and it is named as Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary. When the sanctuary was started it had majorly housed the crocodiles here. If considered todays time there is wide range of birds that are total 70 different types. Cities like Hyderabad and Secundarabad receive the drinking water from the reservoir that use the part of this wildlife sanctuary. The manmade reservoir has nine islands and to name few of them are Bapangadda, Karnamgadda, Puttigadda and Sangamadda. The sanctuary is located on the side of river Manjira that flows for almost 36 km long.
In the sanctuary the type of vegetation found is the Dry Savannah. Submergent and Emergent vegetation are served by the reservoir. The field that surrounds the reservoir and the river are quite fertile and thus are the agricultural fields. The kinds of plants that can be seen in the fringe of the sanctuary are Typha, Acacia and Ipomoea.
The mugger crocodiles that were on the verge of being annihilation in the year 1974 can still be seen in the Manjira wildlife sanctuary.There were only a number of four mugger crocodiles that can be seen in the sanctuary. To keep the mugger crocodiles into their existence the government in Andhra Pradesh took steps to preserve these crocodiles by establishing the Manjira wildlife sanctuary. During the 1980s, this sanctuary was one of the best for watching the numerous birds and this made the government to take the step by keeping the count of the number of birds that have been stayed in the sanctuary. Keeping the count of the birds in the sanctuary thus helped in conserving the birds in the sanctuary. Also with time the count of the crocodiles in the sanctuary has increased as high as 300. This has been possible because of the practice of crocodile breeding in the sanctuary.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
The temperature in summers is around 42 degree Celsius and 15 degree Celsius in winters.
Best time to visit the sanctuary is from October to March.

The nearest airport to visit the sanctuary is in Hyderabad.
The closest rail line is Hyderabad that is just 50 km from the sanctuary.
The sanctuary is well connected with roads to all the major cities in Andhra Pradesh.
The most important trees that are found in the sanctuary are Ipomea, Prosopis, Eichornia, Babool, Vallisneria and Reeds. The plants along the waterline are like Typha, Acacia and Ipomoea. This sanctuary is also termed as the freshwater ecosystem.
The habitat of the sanctuary has the fresh water turtles and Mugger crocodile. The other habitants of the sanctuary are mollusks and prawns. The fishes like rohu, eel, chidwa, catla, murrel and karugu can be seen in the sanctuary. The major reptiles that can be found here are mugger crocodile, cobra, monitor lizard and turtles. The other varieties of animals that make the fauna of the sanctuary rich are the mongoose, Indian hare, jackal and wild boar.
There are almost 73 kinds of birds that are the part of the Manjira wildlife sanctuary. The drooves like Cotton Pygmy goose and Common Teal can be easily seen in the sanctuary. A maximum 1500 number of Ruddy Shelduck can be seen together at a time in the sanctuary. The total of fourteen kinds of birds can be seen here and they are Darter, Painted Stork, Black-crowned Night Heron, Asian Openbill and Eurasian Coot. Cranes and barheaded geese can be easily seen on the upstreams of Lake Manjeera. Lately the endangered species like Indian Skimmer and Lesser Adjutant have been stippled in the vicinity of Manjira Wildlife sanctuary. The species that are being on the verge of extinct like the Painted Stork, Darter, and Oriental White Ibis have been seen in the wildlife sanctuary. The species of the birds that can be seen in the sanctuary are cormorant, spoonbill, Brahminy duck, kite, Quail, open billed stork, little egret, pilchard, pintail, partridge and peacock.
