Andhra Pradesh Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary
Kinnerasani wildlife sanctuary is situated in the outskirts of Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh. This wild life sanctuary is one of the best animal reserves in Andhra Pradesh. Distance of this sanctuary is not more than 15 kilometers from Kothagudem and 25 kilometers from the Bhadrachalam cities. Area of this wild life sanctuary is too wide and spread over more than 635 SQKM. A scenic lake namely Kinnerasani is also located in the heart of this sanctuary which is another attraction of this place.
During the year 1979, various attacks by tigers were done in the nearby places of this sanctuary. Khammam district was then rarely dense. Accommodation planning and construction disturbed the natural habitat of the wild life and thus man eating was started by the tigers of this forest. Seeing the decreasing strength of wild animals due to hunting by men for various purposes, it was decided by the government to declare the affected area as wild life sanctuary. In 1981, this area was identified as Kinnerasani wild life sanctuary and proper watch towers erected around the area. Forest department initiated regular patrolling to put the checks on illegal killing of wild animals. Later in 1985, a lab was also established in this area to ensure various tests and experiments over the animals for increasing their strength. Though, human interference was restricted as natural habitat of the animals cannot be compared from zoo. The nearby village of this sanctuary is Paloncha which is located at 12 kilometers from Khammam district. A large numbers of species that are endangered habited naturally in this sanctuary and preservation of all of them is continuously being done. The population of wild species has been increased since establishment of this sanctuary.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
Weather of this sanctuary is almost dry and slightly harsh too as entire state falls in dry area. For visitors, either locals or outsiders, best time to visit this sanctuary is between June to October. After October chilled winter hampers the frequent visit and wild animals maximum take rest in their dens/holes etc.

This sanctuary can be accessed by all the means of transportation available.
For reaching Kinnerasani wild life sanctuary by air, Hyderabad is the de-boarding station being nearest airport to this place.
Bhadrachalam is the nearest railway station located at 25 kilometers distance from this place. Major trains are available upto Bhadrachalam railway station. From railway station, frequent road transports are available to reach this site.
Kinnerasani is the main place from where frequent taxi services, APSRTC Buses and private cabs are available at every time on affordable charges.
In this sanctuary, a number of animal species are habitat. Non-vegetarian and Vegetarian both type of species are living together in this sanctuary. Wild Boars, Tigers, Black Sloths, Hyena, Deer, Black Deer, Antelopes, Panthers, Jaguars, Chinkaras, Jackals are in huge population. Apart from these animals, bird species are also in much population in this sanctuary. Various types of migratory birds like, Cranes, Teals, Nuktas and Doves are found in this sanctuary. Lake inside the sanctuary is one of the best places to see the migratory birds. Various dangerous reptiles like, King Cobra, Black Python, Iguanas (near by areas of Lake), Large Back scorpions, Chameleons and Russell Wiper snakes are also found here.
The inner portion and surroundings of this sanctuary is full of dense forestry and lush greenery. Various trees of Bamboo, Teak, Neem, Yepi and Bandaru, Tengu are found everywhere in this area. Large Kinnerasani dam, its reservoir and lake inside the sanctuary create a picturesque view and attract a visitor to come here time and again.
A best tourist guest house is constructed by the APTDC with full amenities for a visitor. Eco Park which is located near the dam can be enjoyed if stayed in this guest room. Water reservoir is the starting point of a deep and dense forest full of various types of tall trees and dense bushes. In Paloncha town, there are a lot of guest houses, lodges and Paying Guest Rooms in populated areas for convenience of tourists.
