Dudhi Halwa
Brief Description
Dudhi Halwa is one of the most famous and popular dessert that is made all over India. It is more delicious and North Indian sweet dish. The term ‘Dudhi’ literally means Lauki (bottle gourd) in English in India. It is more beneficial for health, bones, skin and hair and many more. It is easy to make by following this recipe.
Time to Prepare Minutes – 5-10 Time for cooking Minutes – 15-30 Serves People - 4 to 5 Ingredients For Dudhi Halwa
- Freshly grated dudhi (bottlegourd skin lightly peeled) - 2 cups
- Ghee (clarified butter) - 3 tbsp
- Milk - 1 cup
- Sweetened milk - 250 ml
- Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
- Raisins chopped - 1/2 cup
- Cashewnuts chopped - 12-14
- Almonds (blanched in hot water for 5 mins and skin peeled) - 14-16
- Vanilla powder (optional) - 2 tbsp
- Saffron strands - 2
- Khoya (also called as mawa / evaporated milk) - 3 tbsp
- A pinch of Salt
How to make Dudhi Halwa
- In a deep pan, add ghee at average heat. Transfer the grated bottle gourd into it. Knead properly for 4-5 minutes.
- Add milk, sweetened milk, vanilla powder (if using), and saffron threads. Set to cook for 7-10 minutes on average heat. Stirring it continuously.
- Now mix the almonds, cardamom powder, chopped cashews, raisins and salt. Cook it again 5 minutes and stirring it well.
- Add the khoya in the 1/2 of mixture. Cook for making thicker.
- Cook till water evaporates and stirring continuously.
- Turn off the flame. Dudhi halwa is ready to enjoy eating. Serve warm or chilled as per your taste.
Some Useful Tips
- You can use brown sugar or jiggery for better and healthy result of Dudhi Halwa.
- You can use food color also.
- Use nuts as per your taste.
