Dhondas
Brief Description
Dhondas is one of the most popular and traditional dessert of India. It is especially prepared in rainy season. Dhondas is a steamed or baked preparation made from rava, cucumber, coconut, jiggery and jackfruit.
Time to Prepare Minutes – 25-30 Time for cooking Minutes – 45-50 Serves Pieces - 4 Ingredients For Dhondas
- Idli rava - 2 cups
- Cucumber grated (no need to squeeze out its water) - 4 cups
- Jaggery, grated - 2 cups
- Fresh coconut, grated - 2.5 tblsp
- Ghee - 1.5 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Jeera powder - 3/4 tsp
- Cashew, roughly chopped (optional) - 2 tblsp
- Water - 1/2 cup (if needed)
- Dried/fresh turmeric leaves - 2 pieces
How to make Dhondas:
- In a pan, roast rava of rice on ghee at average heat. Make sure it should be change color very slightly not too much. Set it aside.
- Now add the cucumber in a same pan. Mix the salt, jeera powder and turmeric powder. Knead well. Cook it until the desired consistency is reached.
- Idli rava mix in it. And knead well. Make sure it should not be too thick and watery. Mix it completely.
- Now drop the jaggery in it and knead well. Cover the pan and cook it for few minutes. When the preferred consistency is reached, then grease the pan with oil and pour the mixture in it.
- Now Sprinkle resins and cashew nuts.
- Warm serve with little ghee.
