Coconut Rice(Narali Bhat)
Brief Description
Narali Bhaat is one of the most famous and typical sweet treat of Maharashtra. The term literally means “Coconut-Rice” in Marathi. It is especially made during Naivedya for Narali Poornima and more festivals. Narali Bhaat is easy and quick to make by following this recipe.
Preparation Time Minutes -5-10 Cook Time Minutes - 15-30 Serves Pieces - 2 Ingredients For Coconut Rice(Narali Bhat)
- Basmati Rice - 1 cup
- Fresh garted Coconut or frozen shredded Coconut - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Coconut milk - 1 cup
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Ghee or unsalted butter - 6 tsp
- Saffron soaked in 1 tbsp milk - 1/2 tsp
- Cardamom powder – As per your taste
- Whole Green Cardamom - 3 to 4
- Cloves - 5 to 6
- Cinnamon - 1 Stick
- Almonds, Cashew nuts, raisins all together - 1/3 cup
- pinch of salt
How to make Coconut Rice
- To Make Coconut Rice, take rice, wash and drain it well for 30 min.
- Take a pan, heat ghee on average flame and mix cardamom, cinnamon and cloves.
- Add drained rice in the mixture and cook for two minutes. Meantime boil water, pinch of salt, coconut milk and mix it into the rice.
- Boil it on average heat. When start boiling, cover the lid and cook it for 10 minutes at slow heat. As the rice cook completely. Take them out it into the plate and keep aside for cooling completely.
- Take a pan add grated coconut, nuts, sugar and cook till the preferred consistency is reached. And mix it into the rice, ghee, cardamom powder and saffron. Blend it properly.
- Cover the lid tightly and keep it cook for 15 minutes at very low heat. Switch off the burner and set the lid on for 15minutes.
- Coconut Rice is ready to enjoy eating. Serve it.
Some Useful Tips
- Make sure Cook the rice properly. After cooking it with coconut mixture it will dry up well again.
- Always prefer orange food color for better results instead of saffron.
