Sultanpur on the  bank of Gomti which is situated about 61 km south of Faizabad, 42 km north of Pratapgarh and 138 km south-east of Lucknow.

History:

The original town was situated on the left bank of the Gomti. This ancient city has been founded by General Cunnigham and Hiuentsang, the Chinese traveller. The largest village of Sultanpur is called Rasulabad which is situated on the banks or river Gomti. Sultanpur was an estate consisting of twenty villages and three patis which was received by Bariar Singh.

Culture:

The old city of Sultanpur is said to have been called Kusapura or Kusabhavanpur. Villagers of this district, Man usually wears kurta, (long and loose shirts ), dhoti with ganji, angauchha( a type of scarf) and cap or turban. While woman usually wears sarees, blouse or lahanga (long skirt ) and ordhni ( a type of scarf that covers the head and the upper part of body).
