Kanpur Dehat was the former name of the district and the district is presently renamed as Ramabai Nagar district. The district falls in the northern part of India in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The administrative headquarters of the district of Kanpur Dehat are located at Akbarpur and Mati. It is a portion of the Kanpur Division.

The district is spread over an area of three thousand and twenty one square kilometers. The district has one Lok Sabha constituencies at Akbarpur. The assembly seats of Kanpur Dehat are at

In the year the district of Kanpur was divided and two separate namely Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur Nagar were formed. The two districts were reunited in 1979. Finally, in 1981, they were again divided.

The economy of the district is mostly dependent on agriculture. However, cultivation is low in some of the regions of the district namely Derapur, Sandalpur and Rauslabad because of lack of irrigation sources and also the land in these regions are uneven.
