Jalaun is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The name Jalaun is given to the district after the name of Jalaun town. Jalaun was the former headquarter of Maratha governor. In early times Jalaun seems to be clan’s home of two Rajputs, the Kanchwahas and the Chandelas. Larger portion of Jalaun was occupied by the Bundelas which kept hold of Kalpi also.

The district covered an area of about four thousand five hundred and sixty-five square kilometers. The district of Jalaun lies on the Bundelkhand plains and it is surrounded by river Yamuna. The district is bounded by the river Betwa in the south and to its west it is bordered by Pahuj. The southern part of the district of Jalaun presents a sheet almost for the purpose of cultivation.
