Ghaziabad district is among one of the five districts of Meerut. It is situated a in the northern part of India and falls under the state of Uttar Pradesh. The administrative headquarters of the district is located in Ghaziabad town.

The place was initially a Tehsil of the Meerut district. Later on, in 1740, the district was established by emperor, Ghazi-ud-din. He named the place after his name as Ghaziuddinnagar. When the railway lines were introduced in the place, this name was altered to Ghaziabad.

The main rivers that flow through the district are the Yamuna and the Ganga. Apart from this, the tributaries and the canal of Ganga flow all the through the district. Irrigation work is performed through these varied divisions of the water resources.

In the district, a lot of festivals of both communities Hindus and Muslims like Nag Panchami, Ramnavami, Dussehra, Id Ul Fitr, Holi are celebrated with pomp and grandeur. On Katikipurnima, during bathing festival, a huge fair is held in Garhmukhteshwar which attracts more than six lakh crowd every year.
