Fatehpur is among the oldest district in the state of Uttarpradesh. It is one of the 71 districts of UP. It is situated on the banks of Ganga and Yamuna.

History:

During Mughal regime, the control of Fatehpur shifted time to time to the hands of Jaunpur, Delhi and Kannauj. In 1801 A.D., this region came under control of East India Company and in 1814 this was given the status of a sub-division (Paragana), while headquarter was at Bhitaura, which is now a block office. In 1826 A.D., the Fatehpur was re-designated as a District headquarters. The district is divided in to 3 sub-divisions, namely, Fatehpur, Bindki and Khaga.

Culture:
The saga and scriptures of Hindu, Jain temples as well as Buddha shrines are considered to be of post Gupta times. Looking at the perspective quality of contemporary architecture shows a well cultured and educated mass of people during that era. Hori or Phag is called the seasonal folk song which is sang during spring time whereas Malhar and Kajri are sang during monsoon season. Architecture of buildings in some areas are Indian in concept specially in districts like Asni, Asothar, Bahau, Bindki, Renand Gunir whereas in some districts its Muslim style like in Amauli, Deomai, Fatehpur, Haswa, Malwa.
