It is one of the 72 districts of UP.  It falls in the administrative division of Devipatan. It is located on hte banks of river Rapti. Balrampur town is known for Balrampur Chini Mills, one of the largest sugar manufacturing industries in the country.

History:

The name of this estate was derived from its founder Balram Das, who founded it in 16th Century. Balrampur district was a part of the ancient Kosala kingdom. During this duration, Balrampur was an estate of GoBalrampura district. By combining three tehsils viz. Balrampur, Utraula and Tulsipur, Balrampur was created.

Geography:

Area of Balrampur is 3457 sq km. On the east it is surrounded by SidBalrampurthanagar, on the west it is Shravasti, On south it is Basti.
