Burhanpur is a city located in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The city is formed on the bank of the river Tapti. From Bhopal it is situated at a distance of about 340 kilometers and from Mumbai the distance is about 540 kilometers. The name of the city is given on the name of a sufi saint known as Burhannudin Gharib who belonged to Khuldabad. The city has been entirely dependent on the Mughal rule and therefore you can see its glimpse in some of the old buildings which still exist in Burhanpur.

After the rule of Mughal even Marathas lived in Burhanpur. A mixed culture is found here with some elements of the Mughal Empire while some from the Marathas.
