Allahabad is located 205 kilometres (127 mi) south of the state capital, Lucknow. In ancient times it was known as Prayag and is considered to be one of four sites of the mass Hindu pilgrimage Kumbh Mela. Allahabad is situated at Triveni Sangam, the combination of rivers like Ganges and Yamuna, and the ancient Sarasvati River. Allahabad city is one of the largest commercial centers in the state. Allahabad is also one of the most famous industrial towns, with 18 medium and large industrial units, and over 3,000 small scale units.

History:

In 1526 Allahabad became an integral part of the Mughal Empire where Akbar built a fort at Allahabad in which the British built a garrison in 1765. Chandrashekhar Azad was martyr at Alfred Park, Allahabad in 1931. Moreover, Jawaharlal Nehru who was first prime minister belong to Allahabad.
