Maharashtra Nagzira Navegaon Tiger Reserve
Located in Gondia district which lies in Maharashtra India, Navegaon Tiger Reserve is a popular national park which is acknowledged for being a renowned forest resort in Vidarbha region. Lying to the eastern most region of Maharashtra, this park was built in the eighteenth century. The scenery lake which is set amid the lush green hills is spellbinding. History
Covering an area of 135 sq kms, Navegaon Tiger Reserve was established in the 18th century in Maharashtra. This tiger reserve derives its name from word Nave + gaon which in Marathi means new village. This locality is also acknowledged as Navegaon Bandh Locality owing to the presence of large water body. In ancient days, tribal people together with their Gond King resided here. If you stroll down the history of this tiger reserve, you would find traces of Kohali Community that lived here in 1300 AD and beyond. Here agriculture was main source of livelihood, and resources for agriculture depended on the wishes of lord. To supplement the resources, lakes and water reservoirs were built which still remain here in this forest.

The temperature at Navegaon Tiger Reserve is pleasant all through the year. The climate here is wet and hot. It receives little rainfall during the months of monsoon, which ranges from the months of June to September.

By Rail
The nearest railway station to Navegaon Tiger Reserve is Deulgaon on Chandrapur – Gondia. This railway line is the closest railway station which is just 2 kms away from the Navegaon National Park. Trains can be boarded from Gondia Railway Station. Other nearby stations are – Nagpur (150 kms) and Gondia (65 km).
By Air
Nagpur is the nearest airport which is 120 kms away while for private planes Gondia is the nearest airport.
By Road
Navegaon Tiger Reserve is well connected by road and can be reached by using any private or public transport bus or cab. Navegaon is the nearest bus stand which is 10 kms away from the park. Other modes of transport are available from the district headquarters Gondia and tehsil headquarters of Arjuni.
Flora and Fauna
Flora
One of the exceptional attribute of this reserve is the presence of varied vegetation which ranges from moist forest to dry mixed forests. This reserve has a living repository of different aromatic, medicinal, economical, and ornamental plant species. The Navegaon Tiger Reserve has particular Southern mixed dry deciduous forest while it has some main species of Bhor, Bhel, Ain, Mahua, Kawat, Jamun, Haldu and Teak.
Fauna
Nearly 60% of the bird species can be found in this Tiger Reserve. The excitement and experience of having spotted wild animals is speechless. You can get to see scarlet minivet, sapphire blue flash of kingfisher, paradise fly catcher, etc. The vertebrate fauna which can be found here include – wild dogs, sloth bears, wild boars, chitals, nilgais, sambars, bisons, jackle, wolf, palm cavet, small India civet, jungle cat, panther, and tiger.
Wildlife
Navegaon Tiger Reserve has nearly 209 species of birds, 26 species of mammals, 9 species of reptiles and number of fishes. This sanctuary is better known for its bird sanctuary as you would get to see different migratory birds that fly above the lake.
Timings
The Navegaon Tiger Reserve is open from 4am to 7om. Entry is strictly restricted during the rest hours.

Individuals who want to put their stay at Navegaon Tiger Reserve can stay at youth hostels or rest houses in Gondia. There are regular cottages and suits also. Besides all this, there is an option to stay at tree top which is reserved by MTDC.
