Uttaranchal Nandaprayag
The sacred place is located at convergence of river Nandakini and river Alaknanda. According to the legend, this sacred confluence is greatly named after king Nanda. It is said that king Nanda came at this place to perform religious Maha Yagna. Moreover, the slab stone on which sacred Maha Yagna was greatly performed later became the base-foundation for the sacred Nand temple.
History
According to the Hindu mythology, Nandprayag one used to be a capital city of Yadu dynasty. Moreover, according to legend, king Nanda performed a great Maha Yagna at this place thus it became famous as Nandaprayag. It is believed that Nandaprayag is one of five sacred Panch Prayag of river Alaknanda. It is said that dip in sacred confluence remove one’s all sins of life. According to the Hindu mythology, Raja Nanda had been provided a boon of lord Vishnu as his son. However, as per Hindu mythology, same boon had been also granted to Devi Devkiji, sister of king Kansa who was in imprisoned. Hence, finally God Vishnu decided to born as Devki’s son Krishna but would be brought up by Yashoda, wife of Nanda. So due to its religious significances, Nandaprayag is visited by thousands of visitors or devotees every year. It is said, if devotee wish for something at this sacred place then he or she would be granted his/her wish.
How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport is Jolly grant that connects the town to all other important cities of the country. Hence, visitors or pilgrims can easily get direct flights to Jolly grant airport from various domestic airports in the country.
By Rail
Rishikesh railway station is the nearest railway station that connects town to all other parts of the state.
By Road
Chamoli district is also well linked with other neighbouring cities or towns of the state by roads. Hence visitors or pilgrims can easily get road-transportation to reach at the temple.
Weather and Time to Visit
Summer – from April to June, during this period temperature rises to 25 to 30 degree Celsius.
Monsoon – from July to September, during this period due to heavy rainfalls roads and landslides remain blocked thus visitors avoid visiting.
Winter – from November to February, during this period, temperature can drop down to 10 to 0 degree Celsius.
So the best time to visit at Nandaprayag is from the month of March to June and again from the month of October to November.
