Uttaranchal Dhari Devi Temple Near Srinagar
The location of Dhari Devi temple is in Kalyasaur which lies along the highway of Srinagar –Badrinath route. It is about 15 km away from Srinagar and is 20 km distant from Rudraprayag and the capital of the country New Delhi is 360 km away from here.
The Temple of Dhari Devi lies on the embankments of river Alaknanda in the region of Garhwal in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is a home to the upper half of goddess Dhari idol which is believed to change its appearances during the daytime from a young girl to the woman to the old lady according to the local people there. The other half part of the idol is believed to be found in Kalimath where the mata is being worshipped in the form of Kali.
Perched on the top of 20 meter altitude, this temple of Dhari Devi lies in the close proximity of Srinagar, which is merely 19 km away from Pauri Garhwal, located on the highway of Srinagar-Badrinath upto Kaliya Saur from where there another down trek of about half kilometer in the direction of river Alaknanda.
This shrine is believed to be one among the 108 shakti sthals spotted in the country as mentioned by the text of Srimad Devi Bhagwat.
History
As per the belief of the people this temple had once got washed off due to floods and when the idol was floating it got struck with a rock legends say that the villagers had heard idol crying and when they reached the site, there was a divine voice heard by them and instructed them for installing the idol the way it was on that very spot as it was. It is since then that this idol offering a fierce look continues to remain as it was and is referred to as Dhari Devi. The idol of Dhari Devi is kept under open sky and a large number of devotees while their way to Badrinath paid their regards to it.
Architecture
Srinagar located Dhari Devi temple consists of only the first half part of Godess Dhari idol whereas the other lower part is found to be located in Kalimath in the district of Rudraprayag.
There is no permission granted for taking pictures of idols of Dhari Devi. The village in the close proximity of the temple got its name from godess Dhari and therefore it is referred to as Dhari Village.
How to Reach
Jammu is the closest railway station for reaching Srinagar which is 290 km away. The railway station of Jammu has a great connectivity with all prominent cities in the country by rail. There is a direct service of train from cities like Chennai, Delhi, Trivandrum and Bangalore. There are taxis available from Jammu for Srinagar.
There are several services of bus availing deluxe buses having luxuries which can be caught from several cities close to Srinagar. The city remains well connected to cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu, Leh with bus services.
There is a domestic airport at Srinagar which has its connectivity with several airports of prominent cities in the country. There are flights on regular basis operating between Srinagar and Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh. The tickets can be availed at moderate price. There are foreign tourists which may get the connecting flights from international airport of Delhi which lies 876 km away from Srinagar.
