Uttaranchal Daksheswara Mahadev Temple
According to the religious history, Dakshayini was the first consort of Lord Shiva. Father of Dakshayini was Daksha Prajapati. According to the Hindu mythology, Prajapati community is considered the creator of earth. The existing temple was constructed by the Queen Dhankaur of the area during her reign in 1810 AD but due to some natural calamities the temple demolished and the reconstructed in 1962. Since then the temple is being maintained at this place and devotees of Lord Shiva do pilgrimage to this place. According to the religious story, the King Daksha Prajapati disliked her son-in-law, Lord Shiva. He conducted a Yagya and not invited Lord Shiva. Dakshayini, Lord Shiva’s wife gets angry on this as she took it as insult and commit suicide in the Havan Kund. Lord Shiva stunned on this event and started killing the persons present in that Yagya by his assistant Bhadrakali, and Ganas. Later on the request of Bramha, they bestowed the Daksha with a head of goat.
Architecture
This temple is beautifully designed. Central tower of the temple is built in traditional north Indian style of mandir making. Conical tower is provided with moldings and carvings on exterior. Discs have been constructed on the top of tower to fix a small conical dome. The tower is made just over the Garbhagriha and Sabhasthal is made in different direction. An entrance gate with arches, similar to Mughal architectural is provisioned with two closed doors on both sides. Likewise entrance has also been provided on either side of the temple. Roof of the temple is decorated with a group of 6 arches having semicircular dome over them, thus providing a decent look of the exterior portion. Same construction is done on other side of the roof. Just adjacent to this temple, another temple dedicated to Ganges is also constructed. White color building and bordering with fiery red, gives the beautiful look to the temple.
Festivals
In this temple, Maha Shivaratri and Dussehra are celebrated with great zeal and devotion. Sarppooja is also conducted at this temple after every 7 years.
