Uttaranchal Chaiti Devi Temple
Chaiti Devi Temple is a sacred shrine which is located at Rudrapurin the Udham Singh Nagar of Uttrakhand State. It is situated inabout 2.5 kmdistance from Kashipur bus stand, lying in Kashipur Bajpur section of this region. One of the important festivals celebrated here is Navratra festival, which is attended by large number of devotees coming from all the villages around.
Kashipur is a location finding place in ancient literature and it is a popular city in the Tarai region. It is located at an elevation of 218 mtrs from the sea level.
History
Chaiti Devi temple is situated in the famous city of Kashipur, which carries lot of historical importance and also religious fervor. Itbears reference in the Mahabharata Period which fact is confirmed by Archeological Survey of India. The archaeological experts are of opinion that Kashipur was a developed city in North India during the Chalcolithic age. There were trading activities in this place, with copper based products which had included implements and household utensils.
Lord Cunningham who was the first Director General of Archaeological Survey of Indiaspent his time in Kashipur from 1861-62 for surveying this place for its historical importance. It is also believed that legends of the country, such as Gautam Buddha, Tulsidas, Guru Nanak Dev, Guru Gorakhnath and DayanandSaraswati had lived in this region at DronaSagarto propagate knowledge.
Ujjain was Kashipur’s name during Vedic period and the river Dehla here was referred as Swarnbhadra then. However, during the regime of King Harsha, this place got it name as Givishan, sometimes Govisana, and this fact is mentioned by the famous Chinese traveler Hueing Tsang, who visited India during 7th Century. It is during this period one Kashinath Adhikari was responsible for establishing this city, in whose honor the city is named Kashipur.
There are many important spots for a tourist to visit around Kashipur, which include Girtal, DronaSagar, Moteswar Mahadev and a few others. These places have religious connotations too and they are all associated with the Five Pandava brothers of the epic Mahabharata. Chaiti Devi shrine here and the festival celebrated every year as Chaiti Mela are important for every visitor not to miss.

Kashipur is approachable by air, rail and road. Pantnagar airport situated within 72 km distance, the rail links to popular railway stations of Ramnagar, Kathgodam, Moradabad, Bareilly, Delhi and Lucknow which are all nearby and National Highway NH74 passing through this place, travelers find it easy to reach Kashipur and visit Chaiti Devi temple there without any difficulty.

- Ataria temple in the nearby location Rudrapur, which goes with the legend that the tribal King Rudra had his chariot stuck up here in the marshy land once and providentially escaped due to the providence of Goddess Ataria, in whose honor he had constructed this temple.
- There is a famous Gurudwara called Nanakmatta Sahib situated in about 56 km from Rudrapur, to which place large number of devotees throng about, who are not only from Sikh religion but also from other religions.
- There is a beautiful location here which is Drona Sagar Lake, which spot is so vast and beautiful, large numbers of people go and spend lot of time as picnic groups.
- Another important location to visit here is the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology which is situated at Pantnagar. This is the educational establishment which came up as the first of its kind in the country.
