Tamilnadu Sangameswarar Temple
Sangameswarar temple is more than 500 years old and is located at Bhavani near Erode in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the famous Shiva temples of the country built across 3 rivers- the Kaveri, the Bhavani and the "Agaya Gandi" which is an underground source of water. It is a densely populated place with around 60,000 people and it is also called as "Kooduthurai" by the local people. The temple is called as Sangameshwar because it is located at a place where all three holy rivers meet.
History
According to the historic scripts, the son of Visirava (Visrava) - Kubera, who was also a great devotee of Lord Shiva, was gifted with an aircraft to carry out pilgrimage to other places. During his travel he visited Ilandhai where he witnessed one of the impossible incidents that could be imagined. On the banks of river Kaveri he saw a deer, cow, tiger, elephant, rat and a snake, all drinking water nearby a Jujube tree without any signs of enmity or hatred between them. They seem to be at peace and united. He later learnt that this place has been home for many good philosophers, kings and other prominent people like the Gandharvas. He heard the voice of Lord Shiva from the sky which says that the Vedas has landed on earth at this very place near the Ilandhai tree and there is a Shiva linga beneath this tree which is going to be worshipped sincerely in near future. Soon after Lord Shiva appeared in front of Kubera and on Kubera's request Lord Shiva was called as the "Alagesan".
