Tamilnadu Kalayar Kovil Tirukaanapper
The sacred Shiva temple at Kalayar Kovil Tirukaanapper is considered among the Paadal Petra Stalam or ancient group of Shiva temples. This sacred Hindu worship place is devoted to its main deity Lord Mahadeva or Shiva. Remember, the Kalayar Kovil town is owned by a local King family of district Sivaganga. The temple is managed by Devosthanom as well as a trust called Zomindor family in Devakottai.
History
The renowned Kalayarkoil temple also belongs to Sivagangai Devasthanam. On June 25 in the year of 1772, the British army attacked on Kalayar Kovil. Hence, the then king called Muthu Vaduga N. Thevar decided to defend it. However, he was killed by the British army along with his many soldiers in the battle of Kalaiyarkoil. The British army looted all the jewels of the temple and palace. It is believed that Kalayar Kovil Shiva temple was constructed by the Raja Muthu V.N. Thevar during 1717. The temple is not only famous for its religious significances but also for its amazing architecture. Some of the most celebrated festival in Kalayar Kovil is including Kaaleesar, Aadi Pooram and Swarnavalli Amman.
Weather and time to visit
Tamilnadu state has typical tropical climate condition that makes it hot and humid during summer while in winter it becomes cold. Hence, the best time to get there is from the month of March to October.

Madurai airport is the nearest domestic airport which is located only 66 km distance from Kalayar Kovil.
By Rail
However, some of the nearest railway station are Panangudi railway station only 11 km, Nattrusankottai also 11 km and Sivaganga railway station 16 km distance from the Kalayar Kovil town.
By Road
Regular buses, cars and taxis connect the city to other neighboring towns of the state.
