The temple of Charbhuja is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Rajsamand in Rajasthan. The temple is located in the Garhbor village that is surrounded by the ranges of Aravalli hills. The River Gomati drifts near the temple.
The idol of Lord Vishnu in the form of Chaturbhuja has four arms.
The temple was constructed in the year 1444 AD. There have been various inscriptions on the walls of the temple and the name of the village during those days was Badri and hence the idol in the temple is also referred as Badrinath.
An 85 centimeters high idol of Lord Vishnu in form of Chaturbhuja has been installed in the temple. The arms of the Chaturbhuja hold the following in his four arms a conch, discus or chakra, mace and the lotus flower. The energy of Lord Vishnu is depicted by the discus and mace that he holds define his power and energy. The major communities who visit this temple in Rajasthan are the Rajputs and the Gurjars. The Rajputs are marked by having the sword and the shields.
The temple is decorated with the use of mirrors. The materials used in the construction of the temple are Lime mortars and Marble. The closes in the inner temple have been made using gold and the outer closes have been made out of silver. The entrance is adored by the series of stone carved elephants. An idol of Garud has also been installed in other quad of temple. The temples area is very spacious. The large number of pilgrims visits the temple for the worship.
The timing of the temple is from early morning 5’o clock to 10 o’ clock in the night.
History
King Shri Gang Dev on one night had a dream where he saw that he should erect the idol that has been recovered from the water at this place. After this dream he got the idol installed. The temple has been believed to be worshipped by the Pandavas during their exile. For the protection of the temple atleast 125 battles were fought.
Architecture
There are various altars in the temple that are of varied heights and the highest altar is that of the CharbhujaNathJi. Towards the center of the Shikhar has an octagonal shape that very much resembles the round tomb like shape. There are two other Shikhar that stand end to end with this shikhar.
How to Reach
By Rail
The nearest rail line is the Rajsamand railway station at a distance of 40 km that is well connected to other states in India.
By Air
The airport closest to reach the temple is in Dabok that is at a distance of 137 km. Taxis can be hired from the airport to reach the temple.
By Road
Buses from the major cities ply to Jaipur both owned by the State transport and the luxury coach buses owned by private transporters. The city of Jaipur is very well connected to other major cities and states in the country.
Weather and Best Time to Visit
The weather conditions in the city of Rajsamand are generally dry and hot. Months from October to March are considered as the most favorable time to visit the temple.
The temperature of the area during the summers goes as high as 45 degree Celsius and hence this period is not favorable for visit.
The temperature in the summers goes down to the freezing point that is zero degrees Celsius.
Festivals
The festival of JhaljhoolniGyaras is organized on a large scale each year. Millions of devotees come to worship the temple to seek his blessings.
JhaljhoolniGyaras also known as Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day after the bright fortnight in the month of Bhadrapadtha are the August and September months. The temple celebrates this festival with all zeal and zest. The festival proceedings are marked by the sab=cred bath of the idol of Lord Vishnu in the holy water of the nearby lake. Followed by the sacred bath the prayers are done and these proceedings are attended by thousands of the devotees who travel to the village on foot.
The other festivals celebrated in the temple are Navratris, Janmasthami, Ram Navami and the festival of colors Holi.
