The Kalika Mata Temple of Chittorgarh Fort is a well known Hindu Temple which predates Maharana Pratap while is visited by thousands of pilgrims and visitors every year. The Kalika Mata is worshipped at this temple which is an aspect of Goddess Bhadrakali, the goddess of Pawar clan.
Constructed for Sun God “Surya” initially, this temple has an inner sanctum where the walls depict Sun God being circled by angels and spouses. The inner walls of this temple are painted while include the moon god also. The roof top of the temple is carved and narrowed down. The frame of the main entrance door is carved with Surya God as the main theme. This temple has immense Mauryan architectural influence.
History
A shrine dedicated to Goddess Kalika, is a symbol of power and courage which had its birth in the 8th century, while is considered as one of the ancient temples in Chittorgarh region. Though it is considered that this temple was initially constructed to pay homage to Sun god “Surya”, presently it is worshipped for Goddess Kalika Mata. The temple was constructed by King Bappa Rawal of Sisodya Dynasty. After few years of its establishment, Maharana Hamir Singh installed an idol of Kalika Mata for some time in fourteenth century and started worshipping her here. Owing to this fact, this temple got the name of Kalika Mata Temple as the goddess is considered to be one of the loyal patron Goddess of Chittorgarh forts.
Discovery of Temple
This temple was discovered by King Bappa Rawal who belonged to the Sisodiya Dynasty. It dates its origin back to the 14th century when an idol of Kalika Mata was installed here.

By Air
The city Chittorgarh is well connected by air through the Dabok airport which is also called the Maharana Pratap Airport in Udaipur. This is approximately 90 kms away the Kalika Mata temple.
