Odisha Mukteswar Temple
The Mukteshwar Temple is one of the most significant and ancient temples of Hinduism located in Bhubaneswar. The devotees of Lord Shiva visit this sacred place which is 350 years old. It is also known by the name of Mukteshwar Dham.
This sacred place is located at a distance of 350 km from New Delhi and is surrounded by dense forests. Visitors also get to see the unique and rare variety of birds, deers, langurs and rhesus monkeys. As it is surrounded by the dense Himalayan Mountains therefore, people with patience can also get the golden opportunity to watch mountain leopard, black bear and other rarely found animals.
This temple is built from white marble and is situated at the hill top which makes it filled with beautiful ambience and fresh air. The room of the temple contains the Shivling made up of copper yoni and surrounded by other Hindu gods like Brahma, Vishnu, Ganesha, Parvati, Nandi oxen.
History
This is one of the most sacred places in Hinduism where prayers are offered to the deity of Lord Shiva. As per the Hindu mythology, it is been said that after an intense war between Lord Shiva and a cruel demon, this place named as Mukteshwar Dham. This war took place around 350 year ago when Lord Shiva gave salvation to the demon. This place still has the some blur traces of the war in the form of sword, trunk of an elephant and a shield.
The Blue throated Shiva called the Neelkanth which is 6596 m/21569 ft and the Veil of the Goddess called the Nandaghunti which is 6310 m/ 19233 ft could be seen from here.

By Air
If you want to travel by air then, there are flights running from New Delhi to Orissa. If you reside in big cities, you can arrange for flights from there as well.
By Rail
New Delhi is the nearest railway station from all the destinations wherever you are residing. You can book tickets for your train to New Delhi or to Orissa. You can also take the direct train from New Delhi to Orissa.
By Road
While travelling through road, it is a 1 day journey where you will need to travel around 305 km which will take 4 hours and 43 minutes to reach this sacred place.
Significance Of The Temple
It is believed that on the occasion of Shivratri, thousands of devotees of Lord Shiva visit this place to offer milk, water and flowers on the statuette. They visit this temple with the urge to get salvation after their death.
In addition to the main temple, there are other temples surrounding the main building which are carved with the art of Orissa. They are carved with different shapes and interesting statues of male and female gods and goddesses depicting a story out of it.

One can visit Mukteshwar almost throughout the year. The problem comes in the rainy season because of which the roads become slippery and are blocked most of the times. Therefore, before making your plans, you must have a look at the weather forecast.

Rules And Rituals Of The Temple
It is a common ritual followed at the temple of Lord Shiva to offer milk and flowers at the deity. People believe that this shows their respect and belief in God. People pray and make wishes in front of the deity of Lord Shiva and hope for their wish to come true.
It is also believed that if a person takes bath in the river of the temple then, all its sins will come to an end and their soul will move towards salvation at the time of death.
